The desire to perform came early for Elissa Dowling. At age 8 she danced in the NYC Ballet Company’s production of “The Nutcracker”. By age 11 she was invited to tour with an established east coast improvisation troop where she gained valuable experience in the art of ad lib. At 13 she starred in several stage productions including “Little Shop of Horrors” and debuted in the television production of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” as the notorious lips, singing the show’s opening theme song
The transition from stage to screen worked well for Elissa whose expansive acting range has landed her many unique and diverse movie roles. She has played an attorney, a serial killer, a transvestite bartender, a futuristic scientist, and even a goth dominatrix from New York. Her unique abilities as a character actress have enabled her to perform roles so intense that she is almost completely unrecognizable.
Several of Elissa Dowling’s starring roles have been picked up by Lions Gate distribution. In addition, over the past 5 years she has achieved a recognizable body of work within the independent movie industry. Already having acted in over 60 horror films she then played the young wife of legendary actor David Carradine. The film, “Absolute Evil” gained critical acclaim and was recognized at the Berlin film festival. She followed that performance with a role in the Clive Barker’s movie “Dread”.
